AERA Meets Ikeja Electric Over Proposed Band A Migration for Abesan Estate
Olufemi Odeyemi, Abesan, Ipaja Lagos. The Executive of the Abesan Estate Residents Association (AERA) today visited the Ikeja Electric office to seek clarity on the proposed migration of Abesan Estate to Band A electricity service, following concerns and complaints from residents.
At the meeting, the Manager explained that the proposed migration is not solely a decision of the local Ikeja Electric office. He told the delegation that if a formal directive is issued by the appropriate federal authority requiring Abesan Estate to be moved to Band A, the local office would be obliged to implement it.
The Manager, however, indicated that the applicable tariff structure could be reviewed afterwards. According to the information given to the AERA delegation, the tariff for Abesan may at a later stage be adjusted to a more affordable level, potentially lower than what some existing Band A customers currently pay.
The delegation was also told that the migration is not being implemented immediately. The local office is said to be awaiting a formal directive from the relevant authority before taking any further action.
In a statement, AERA said it considers it important to keep residents properly informed and will continue to engage Ikeja Electric and other relevant authorities on the matter. The association urged residents to remain calm and await further verified updates from the Executive as developments unfold.
The statement was signed by Odunewu Olusegun, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of AERA.
