UNAUTHORISED ALTERATIONS: AERA SEALS FLAT 5, BLOCK 86 OVER SAFETY CONCERNS

The Executive Council of the Abesan Estate Residents Association (AERA) took decisive action on Saturday, August 1, by sealing Flat 5, Block 86, Sector 9 following reports of unauthorized heavy construction work within the apartment.

The intervention by the AERA Enforcement and Compliance Team came in response to distress calls and complaints from neighboring residents regarding heavy ongoing work inside the premises.

An immediate on-site inspection revealed that the occupant had begun constructing additional upstairs ensuite toilets. According to estate officials, this structural alteration directly deviates from the building's original design and poses a severe threat to the structural integrity and safety of the entire block. To safeguard lives and property, the construction was halted immediately, and the premises were sealed off as a precautionary measure.

In a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of AERA, Mr. Odunewu Olusegun, the association reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy regarding unapproved building modifications.

"This action serves as a reminder that, despite repeated warnings and awareness campaigns, unauthorised structural modifications to flats are strictly prohibited," Odunewu stated. "Any alteration that changes the original building design or affects the structural stability of a block will attract immediate enforcement action."

The association reiterated that resident safety remains its highest priority and urged community members to remain vigilant. Residents are encouraged to promptly report any ongoing heavy construction or suspicious structural modifications within their blocks to the AERA Executive Council or the Enforcement Team to prevent avoidable building failures.
